Mrs. Monica Naughton Brown begins her third year as Supervisor of Instruction for Elmwood Park Public Schools, after having completed twenty years as a teacher at Memorial Middle School. A graduate of Cornell University (B.A.) and Columbia University (M.A.), Mrs. Brown more recently completed the Masters in Educational Leadership program at Montclair State University.
Recognized by the State of New Jersey as a highly qualified teacher in the four core content areas of mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies, Mrs. Brown has instructed classes in each of these disciplines at multiple grade levels. Throughout the years, she has received a number of accolades, including being named “Math Hero” in Raytheon Company’s national competition, “General Educator of the Year” by Region IV Council for Special Education, and “Teacher of the Year” in the NJ Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program.
As Supervisor of Instruction, Mrs. Brown looks forward to working with elementary, middle, and high school personnel to cultivate a rich educational environment that promotes student success and fosters a culture of learning. All students can learn, and Mrs. Brown understands that we must do all we can, as educators, to ensure that they do.
In addition to her position on Elmwood Park’s administrative team, Mrs. Brown instructs two seventh grade science classes aboard her “ship,” the S. S. Brownie. (See link at left for more information.) Mrs. Brown’s plans for the future include releasing her “Math and Science’s Greatest Hits” album. She patiently awaits the return of her former students with their offers of legal advice and marketing skills—hopefully pro bono!
